MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Keystone College softball team enjoyed two wins on Thursday against SUNY Morrisville and Rutgers Newark at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic.
With the pair of victories, the Giants improve to 4-2 and will wrap up their spring break trip today with games against Medaille (7-1) and SUNY Poly (2-6), starting at 1:30 p.m. Morrisville drops to 0-3 while Rutgers Newark falls to 2-5.
Game One: Keystone 8, Morrisville 0 (5 innings)
The Giants scored three runs in the fourth and followed that with a four-run fifth. Keystone outhit the Mustangs 10-3 in the win.
Paige Mokychic (Beaumont, Pa./Tunkhannock Area) went 2-for-3 with three RBI, including a two-run homer in the fourth. This was the 11th career home run for Mokychic, which tied for third-most in program history (Kaitlyn Sawicki, 2012-15).
Lexy Johnson (Newark, Del./Delaware Military Academy) finished 2-for-3 at leadoff, including a solo shot in the fourth - her seventh career long ball. Brooke Staple (Carbondale, Pa./Carbondale Area) enjoyed a 3-for-4 day while Alyssa Booth (Holland, Pa./Council Rock North) and Mara Brooks (Manassas, Va./Brentsville) drove in one run each.
Amber Stansfield (Levittown, Pa./Conwell-Egan Catholic) earned the win, scattering just three hits while striking out two Mustangs. She forced seven flyouts and six groundouts.
Game Two: Keystone 9, Rutgers Newark 7
Keystone raced out to a 5-0 lead and tacked on three runs in the sixth to defeat the Scarlet Knights.
The top of the order was huge for the Giants, as the one through four hitters combined to go 10-for-16 with eight RBI and seven runs scored.
Mokychic stayed hot going 2-for-4 with four RBI, including her 12th career homer in the first - a two-run shot - to move into sole possession of third-most all-time in program history.
Staple finished 3-for-4 with two RBI while Booth went 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Johnson tallied two hits, two runs, and one RBI.
Courtney Cienki (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) struck out nine in five innings while Hannah Dickson (Salisbury, Md./James M. Bennett) pitched in relief with one strikeout and four groundouts.
