Men’s Lacrosse Falls to Wells in Season Opener

Keystone kept it close early but ultimately fell by a score of 15-6.

La PLUME, Pa. – Keystone men's lacrosse opened the 2022 season with a loss, falling to visiting Wells College, 15-6, Saturday afternoon in non-conference play at the Turf Field Athletics Complex.

The Giants kept it close through the first 20 minutes of play before the Express pulled away on a 5-1 scoring run to close out the first half with a 9-4 advantage.

Tyler McManus (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) led Keystone with a hat trick and factored in all but one of the Giants' goals (two assists). The junior matched two early goals from Wells' Jacob Stine before Shane Syms scored in the final minute of the first period to give the Express a 3-2 lead.

After a Wells-goal via Quinten Battle — the first of his four scores — to start the second quarter, McManus assisted Izaiah Simon (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock Area) to keep it a one-score game before the Express took off on a scoring surge to put the game out of reach.

Simon finished with a pair of goals for Keystone in addition to 12 ground balls while winning 19 of 25 faceoffs.

Stine tallied a game-high six scores and Syms finished with a hat trick.
