Football Week Eight Preview: Lycoming

LA PLUME, Pa.- The Keystone College football team returns home to go up against the Lycoming College Warriors this Saturday, Oct. 21 at 1 p.m.

Keystone

Keystone (1-6, 0-3 Landmark) were defeated by Wilkes University 42-7 in their previous matchup.

Keystone's lone score came from Damir Green (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep) who provided a two-yard rushing touchdown in the second quarter. Green ran for 73 yards in the defeat.

The Giants defense had some big play makers as Zach Hoover (Elmhurst Township, Pa./North Pocono) and Nicholas DeFrancesco (Quarryville, Pa./Solanco) finished with nine total tackles. Tyler Malanga (Monroe, N.J./Monroe Twp.) ended the game with five total tackles with three of them going for a lost. In addition, he recorded a sack. Senior cornerback Dontez Crawford (Baltimore, Md./Pennsauken) had his second interception of the year.

Once again, Zac Cost (Dalton, Pa./Lackawanna Trail) enjoyed another stellar punting performance. He concluded the Landmark matchup with eight punts for 341 yards. He averaged about 43 yards a punt with his longest punt going for 56 yards. Three of his punts landed inside the opponents 20-yard line.

 Due to his immense efforts, he was named Landmark Conference Specialist of the Week making him the first Keystone football player to be awarded a Landmark Conference football weekly award.

Lycoming

Lycoming (1-5, 1-1 Landmark) picked up their first win of the season as they came from behind to defeat Catholic University, 28-25.

Will Fish completed 13 passes for 216 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. Running back Quasim Benson rushed for 132 yards with a score. Brandon Timothy and Billy Coppock each caught a receiving touchdown.

Sophomore defensive back Jordan Rhinehart had a big game last week. Rhinehart wrapped up the game with eight total tackles as well as the game sealing interception. He earned Landmark Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors for his contributions. Ryan Pentz, Austin Rowley, and Matt Trolinger combined for 18 tackles. Pentz recovered a fumble in the conference contest.

Trailing 14-17 in the fourth quarter, Lycoming used two one-yard rushing touchdowns to open their lead to 11 points. Catholic answered back with a receiving touchdown and a successful two-point conversion to cut the deficit to three.

Following a Lycoming three-and-out, the Cardinals received the ball with little over a minute remaining in the game. Rhinehart picked off the pass on the first play of the drive to give the Warriors the victory.

What's Next

Keystone will remain home next week as they welcome Catholic University next Saturday, Oct. 28 at 12 p.m. in the program's final home game of the 2023 campaign. The Giants will also recognize the football seniors prior to kickoff.
