LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Keystone College field hockey team will be heading to Virginia to play No. 11Â University of Lynchburg Hornets in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Wednesday, Nov. 8 at 2 p.m.
The winner of this matchup will advance to the second round to battle the front-runner in the York College (Pa.) vs. Denison contest on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 1 p.m.
Keystone
Keystone (11-5) captured the 2023 United East Conference Championship with a 3-0 victory over Cedar Crest College on Saturday.
Maria Tomada (Buenos Aires, Argentina/San Vicente de Paul) earned United East Tournament MVP as she scored five goals and recorded two assists throughout the conference tournament. She contributed with one goal and one assist in the title game. Tomada leads Keystone and the conference with 15 goals this season.
Outside of Tomada, Belen Rodriguez (Caballito, Buenos Aires, Argentina/Colegio Santa BrÃgida) and Vicky Mainero (Francisco Alvarez, Buenos Aires, Argentina/St. Patrick's College) found the back of the cage in the conference final. Miranda Mascia (Blakeslee, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) tallied two assists while Mainero, Tomada, and Gabby Lodato (Union, N.J./Union) had one.
This is the second conference title for the field hockey program and their first as members of the United East Conference. The Giants last appearance in the NCAA Tournament was in 2018 when they faced The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) back on Nov. 7.
Lynchburg
Lynchburg (19-2) won its 22nd ODAC Championship over the weekend with a 2-1 win against No. 16 Shenandoah University.
Ryleigh Cameron and Riley Winefordner scored the lone goals for the Hornets. Aaryn Boatwright made one assist. Cassidy Morgan added the only goal for Shenandoah.
Four Hornets were named to the ODAC All-Tournament Team as Cameron, Kayla Brady,  Allie Freeman, and Renee Van Thiel picked up all-tournament team honors.
Lynchburg commanded much of the action on the afternoon as they outshot their opponent, 24-4. The Hornets finished with 13 penalty corners in the conference championship.
