Giants Playing For CSAC Title

2/25/2023 8:10:00 AM

La PLUME, Pa. - It's been a roller-coaster season for the Keystone College men's basketball team. The Giants opened the season 4-8 and fell to 8-11 at one point but have played their best basketball in the playoffs.

Shane Rosencrans (Throop, Pa./Mid Valley) says, "I would say the last couple of games; we had some tough ones you get out of the way, learn from them, you never take a loss lightly. Then you put it all together and I think we are playing hot at the right time."

Brad Cooper added, "I think we are battle tested and I think we knew it was going to be a rough road early on without Pete Laidley (Miramar, Fla./Pembroke Pines Charter). So we didn't have Pete for the first nine games and then we started rolling when we got him back."

Jack Anderson (Davie, Fla./Western) says, "As a team, we are playing our best basketball right now. In the beginning, we had a lot of challenges we played a lot of non-conference opponents that were very good, Brockport, Ithaca, and teams like that who I think are the top 25 teams in the country."

Keystone is led by a wrong athletic group paced by freshman Javen Flowers-Smith (Atlanta, Ga./Pembroke Pines Charter), who leads the team in scoring averaging 24 points a game. But the Giants are not a one-man team.

Flowers-Smith says, "We are definitely not a one-man team. From the person at the end of the bench to our best shooter and best defender as my back and have each other's back. We are looking for the best shot and a lot of times the ball is in my hands but we are looking for the best shot."

Anderson added, "We beat Cairn and he had 44 points, 23 of 23 from the line. It was insane I didn't think he shot that much. we are not a one-man team we have a lot of pieces on this team."

Rosencrans says, "This is probably one of my favorite years. We have athletic dudes and everyone is athletic and can dunk, you just throw it up and let them do their work, not me but I am having a lot of fun."

Tomorrow Keystone will seek its first-ever CSAC championship when they face Wilson College on the road. The Giants have already lost to the Phoenix twice this season but feel the third time will be the charm.

Flowers-Smith continued, "They have to respect our shooters now. the last time we played them our best shooter was out so spacing the floor was a little different and they loaded up on us but now with our whole team they just have to respect all of our weapons."

Rosencrans stated, "My career is coming down to an end. Ever since we were freshmen everyone has had the same goal to buy in and get to the championship. I am just excited and proud of myself and we are ready to go out and get after it."

The CSAC championship game will start at 4:30 pm Saturday with the winner earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Division 3 tournament.
