LA PLUME, Pa.- The Keystone College women's lacrosse team dropped its season opener to Gwynedd Mercy 15-1 Saturday afternoon at the Keystone College Turf Field. Keystone drops to 0-1 while Gwynedd Mercy goes to 2-1.
Meaghan Drennan (Drums, Pa./Hazleton Area) scored the lone goal for Keystone coming in the fourth quarter off a free position shot.
Drennan and Hailey Dunham (Southgate, Mich./Inter-City Baptist) combined for six ground balls. Â
Maria Tomada (Buenos Aires, Argentina/San Vicente de Paul) posted a match-high seven ground balls in the contest. Hannah Osbahr (Old Bridge, N.J./Old Bridge) finished with seven saves.
For the visiting Griffins, Kristen Varilla and Alysia Collins both scored five goals.
Hailey Bloom chipped in with a hat trick and Cheyenne Avellino tallied two goals.
The Griffins barely outshot the Giants, 24-21. They also had the advantage on ground balls, 27-25.
Keystone will face King's College (PA) on the road next Saturday, Mar. 4 at 1 p.m. Gwynedd Mercy will travel to Wilkes University on Wednesday, Mar. 1 at 4 p.m.
