Baseball Captures 2023 CSAC Championship

LA PLUME, Pa.- The top-seeded Keystone College baseball team captured its 18th straight conference championship (14th CSAC title) with a 10-8 come from behind win against No. 2 Wilson College Saturday afternoon at Christy Mathewson Field.

With the win, Keystone moves to 30-12 and have earned the CSAC's automatic bid into the NCAA tournament. Wilson ends the year at 34-10.

Bobby Pokorney (Margate, Fla./J.P. Taravella) went 3-for-3 with two RBI in route to being named the CSAC Championship MVP. Throughout the conference tournament, Pokorney batted .700 and was 7-for-10 with three RBI.

Julio Acosta (Elizabeth, N.J./Hudson Catholic) went 2-for-3 which included a two-run home run. Giovanni Diaz (Bronx, N.Y./Christopher Columbus) and Jason Thomas (Miami, Fla./Barbara Goleman) recorded two base hits with one RBI. Nathan Hinkley (Bradenton, Fla./Saint Lucie West Centennial) got the start on the mound and went four innings.

Drew Sorrentino (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland), Julian Gonzalez (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne), and Tyler Mullen (Scott Township, Pa./Lakeland) appeared in relief. Gonzalez picked up his first victory on the year as he went 1.2 innings with one hit and one strikeout. Mullen tallied his fifth save of the season.

The Giants trailed 7-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth where the squad put up five runs to cut their deficit down to one. Wilson answered with one run of their own in the seventh off of a solo home run by Michael Marrale, his second home run of the game. However, that would be the last time Wilson would score in the championship. The eighth inning is where the game got turned upside down as Keystone scored four runs off of a throwing error and three RBI base knocks to complete the miraculous comeback.

Keystone will find out where they are heading in the NCAA regional tournament with the NCAA Division III Baseball Selection Show which airs Monday, May 15 at 12 p.m.
