Football Week Two Preview: Hartwick

ONEONTA, N.Y.- The Keystone College football team faces their first road test of the season as they travel to Oneonta, N.Y. this Saturday, Sept. 9 for a week two matchup with the Hartwick College Hawks. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Keystone (1-0) enter week two following a 27-6 win over Gallaudet University in the 2023 season opener. Donald Leach III (Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna Township) and Mujaheed Muhammad (Philadelphia, Pa./Paul Robeson) provided two touchdowns for the Giants to help lead the team to victory. Leach went 11-for-18 with 145 yards passing. Muhammad ran the ball 20 times for 100 yards.

Keystone's defense forced three Bison turnovers as Elijah Washington (Lawrence, N.Y./Lawrence) and Robxavier Mendez (Tobyhanna, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) contributed with a fumble recovery, and Sean Pettway (Ellenville, N.Y./Ellenville) had a late fourth quarter interception. CJ Riccobono (New Hyde Park, N.Y./New Hyde Park Memorial) and Joshua Orozco (Reading, Pa./Reading) led the Giants defense with eight total tackles. Quentin Tibbs (New Brunswick, N.J./New Brunswick) posted the lone sack for the home squad.

Zac Cost (Dalton, Pa./Lackawanna Trail) enjoyed a solid day punting as he had five punts for 190 yards with his longest punt going for 58 yards. Three of his punts landed inside the opponents 20-yard line.  Kicker Jeremiah Ortiz (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) was a perfect 3-for-3 on extra points.

Hartwick

The Hartwick College Hawks (0-1) are coming off a season opening defeat to SUNY Maritime last weekend. The Hawks got on the board with a field goal early in the first quarter. Following the successful field goal attempt, the Privateers would go on to score 34 unanswered points.

Quarterback James Sobol led the Hawks air attack with 131 yards, one touchdown, and an interception. Dahvion Wimberly had two receptions for 104 yards, highlighted by a 75-yard receiving touchdown.

Hartwick defensive back Joshua Titus posted nine tackles and one forced fumble in the loss to pace the Hawks defense. Dylan Murphy and Nelon Priest both had a pass break up.

What's Next

Following the trip to Hartwick, Keystone will return home to face St. John Fisher University next Saturday, Sept. 16 at 1 p.m.
