Lady Giants Conclude 2024 with 68-59 Win at Rutgers-Newark

NEWARK, N.J.- The Keystone College women's basketball team wrapped up 2024 and their nonconference slate with a 68-59 victory against Rutgers-Newark Monday afternoon.

Keystone moves to 7-5 while Rutgers-Newark falls to 3-9.

Tamari Hubbard (Bronx, N.Y./Mott Haven) led the way with a double-double as she had 23 points and 11 rebounds. Anyah Ortiz (Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin) also registered a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds. Malaysia Bryant (Harlem, N.Y./Thurgood Marshall) scored 10 points as well with three steals. Ginger Kerdock (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) and Iysis Nickens (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) both had seven points.

For the Scarlet Raiders, Arlenny Medina posted a game high of 17 points and four assists. Raihanna Abdus-Salaam recorded a triple-double with 12 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 steals while Zoe Francis Bunkley chipped in with a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Tracey Ilderis also scored 10 points in the nonconference contest.

The Giants held a narrow 38-34 lead at the conclusion of the first half. The Scarlet Raiders played Keystone tough in the second half as they held the team to four points in the third quarter.

Rutgers-Newark scored the first seven points of the fourth quarter, but their second half spark would diminish quickly as the Giants would go on an 11-0 run shortly afterwards and would use that momentum all the way to the end. The Giants put up 26 points in the final quarter to secure the victory.

The squad outrebounded their opponent 54-32 and held a 38 percent field goal percentage.

Keystone opens 2025 with a United East Conference bout at Rosemont College on Saturday, Jan. 4 at 1 p.m.
