Baseball Falls to Hanover and Bridgewater to Open 2024 Season

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.- The Keystone College baseball team began the 2024 season Thursday afternoon, dropping both games of a doubleheader to Hanover College in a 5-4 nailbiter and Bridgewater College 6-3 at the Ripken Experience.

The Giants fall to 0-2 to start the year. Hanover improves to 4-2 and Bridgewater goes to 9-3.

Hanover 5; Keystone 4

Justin Mann (St. John's, Fla./Bartram Trail) and Bobby Pokorney (Margate, Fla./J.P. Taravella) led the way for Keystone with two RBI's each. Robert Estrada (Maracay, Venezuela/Ferris) recorded two hits while David Curreri (Beach Lake, Pa./Honesdale) and Dylan Byler (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) both notched a hit. Andy Rivas (Bronx, N.Y./Academy for Language and Technology) got on base with a walk as well.

Brayan Villar (West Orange, N.J./Belleville) earned the start and pitched five innings with three strikeouts. Drew Sorrentino (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) and Cam Hale (Covington, Wash./Kentridge) each came in for relief and recorded a strikeout.

Down 4-3, Hanover took their first lead of the contest with a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to secure the win.

Bridgewater 6; Keystone 3

Jacob Yager (Grahamsville, N.Y./Tri-Valley) had a great day at the dish as he went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run.  Estrada recorded two base hits. Darren Hagan (Aston, Pa./Garnet Valley) had an RBI base knock. Kyle Caringi (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport Area) got the starting nod and went five innings with three strikeouts and allowed only one run. Justice Ramirez (North Bergen, N.J./North Bergen), Byler, and Julian Gonzalez (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne) appeared in relief.

The Giants held a 3-2 lead heading into the top of the ninth where the Eagles poured in four runs in that inning to pull away with the victory.

What's Next

Keystone will face SUNY Brockport tomorrow in a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. Game two will follow at approximately 6 p.m.
