MORRISTOWN, N.J.- The Keystone College men's basketball team secured a 90-88 overtime victory at Saint Elizabeth Tuesday evening in United East Conference action.
The conference victory moves the Giants to 10-8 and 8-3 in league play.
This also marks the 300th career head coaching win for Andrew Kettel. He had a combined record of 279-126 as the head coach of Lackawanna Trail and Scranton Prep. He is currently 21-23 as the Giants head coach.
Daryl Coleman (Allentown, Pa./Southern Lehigh) tallied a double-double as he scored a season-high 32 points with 14 rebounds. Boston Caldwell (Auckland, New Zealand/Westlake) provided 22 points and four rebounds. Brandon Scott (Cheltenham, Pa./Cheltenham) almost notched a double-double as he had 13 points and eight rebounds. Pete Laidley (Miramar, Fla./Pembroke Pines Charter) dropped 10 points.
Tye-Rell Monroe paced the Eagles with a double-double as he had 29 points and 11 rebounds. Cam'Ron Martel also provided a double-double with 15 points and 17 rebounds. Malamin Kaba and Edwin Mercado both scored 12 points while Joseph Mazzola added 11.
With the game tied at 76 with less than a minute remaining in the second half, Martel scored a three to give Saint Elizabeth the lead. The Giants responded a few seconds later with a three by Coleman which eventually forced overtime.
Both teams traded buckets nonstop throughout the overtime period. The Eagles held an 88-87 lead late in that period until Caldwell banked in a three to put the Giants on top. Following a Saint Elizabeth timeout, they tried to win it with a three of their own, but Kamdyn Ayers (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Western) blocked the shot and gave Keystone the win.
The Giants shot 41.8 percent (33-of-79) from the floor and grabbed 47 rebounds. This contest consisted of 16 lead changes and the score being tied 13 times.
Keystone heads to Valley Forge on Thursday, Jan. 30 at 8 p.m.
