Softball Finishes Spring Break with Losses to Minnesota Morris and Coast Guard Academy

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.- The Keystone College softball team wrapped up their spring break schedule as they took on University of Minnesota Morris and United States Coast Guard Academy Wednesday afternoon in the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic.

The Giants dropped both games by scores of 12-7 and 13-1 (5 inn.)

Game One: Minnesota Morris 12, Keystone 7

Kiara Taylor (Berlin, Md./Decatur) went 3-for-5 with two RBI. Emily Schultz (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock Area) also had three hits in the contest. Angelina Morley (Deposit, N.Y./Deposit) recorded two as she had an RBI single along with an RBI double. Isabella Benitez (East Windsor, N.J./Hightstown) and Isabella Mandarano (Dunmore, Pa./Dunmore) finished with two hits in the game one loss.

Julia Gorel (Carbondale, Pa./Carbondale Area) got the start in this game and tossed a complete game with one strikeout, 10 flyouts, and eight groundouts.

The Cougars took the lead in the top half of the second inning as they chipped in two runs. The Giants dropped a four spot in the bottom half of that inning to take the lead. From that point on, it was all Minnesota Morris as they tallied 10 runs in the last five innings of the contest to pull away with the victory.

Game Two: Keystone 1, United States Coast Guard Academy 13 (5 inn.)

After scoring in the top half of the first, the Bears rattled off 13 unanswered runs, highlighted by a seven run second inning for the mercy run rule win.

Sam Ratti (Brodheadsville, Pa./Pleasant Valley) had the two lone hits for Keystone. Schultz started in the circle and went three innings with a punchout. She also had the only RBI. Gorel appeared in relief and tossed one inning.

What's Next

Keystone (1-7) are back on the field two weeks today as they face cross-town rival Marywood University on Wednesday, Mar. 26 at 3 p.m.
