BEL AIR, Md.- The Keystone College baseball team opened United East Conference play with two commanding victories over Notre Dame of Maryland 22-7 and 21-5 Saturday afternoon at Harford Community College.
This marked the first meeting between these two schools.
Game One: Keystone 22, Notre Dame of Maryland 7
The Giants scored early and often as they got on the scoreboard every inning, highlighted by a seven-run first inning.
Nate Ewing (Jersey Shore, Pa./Jersey Shore Area) went 3-for-5 with five RBI while Griffin Yastremski (Bath, N.Y./Haverling) tallied five RBI with two home runs. Andy Rivas (Bronx, N.Y./Academy for Language and Technology), Carlos Pascual (Paterson, N.J./International), and Chase Boyle (Millsboro, Del./Sussex Central) all had three runs batted in.
Sean Brennan (Hatfield, Pa./North Penn) moved to 4-0 on the season as he pitched four innings with three strikeouts. Nick Gravel (Sidney, N.Y./Sidney), Dylan Byler (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg), and Anthony Mierez (Granby, Conn./Rockville) pitched an inning in relief.
Game Two: Keystone 21, Notre Dame of Maryland 5
A nine-run first inning helped Keystone secure the doubleheader sweep. Donovan Rhoden (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) had a monster game as he recorded three hits with six RBI. The junior infielder hit two home runs in the win.
Robert Estrada (Maracay, Venezuela/James J. Ferris) went 4-for-5 with four RBI. Boyle and Dee Rice (Simpsonville, S.C./Dorman) combined for three hits and six RBI.
Quinn Holt (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) picked up his second win as he tossed five innings while striking out seven. Drew Sorrentino (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) and Leam Powell (Phillipsport, N.Y./Chapel Field Christian) also pitched an inning in relief. Sorrentino punched out one batter, and Powell struck out two.
