Softball Falls to Penn State Abington on Senior Day

SOUTH ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, Pa.- The Keystone College softball team suffered two losses on senior day as they were defeated by Penn State Abington 15-1 and 10-2 Sunday afternoon at Hillside Park.

The team honored seniors Mara Brooks (Manassas, Va./Brentsville), Isabella Mandarano (Dunmore, Pa./Dunmore), Angelina Morley (Deposit, N.Y./Deposit), and Hanaje Riley (Allentown, Pa./William Allen) prior to today's contest.

Game One Penn State Abington 15, Keystone 1 (5 inn.)

The Nittany Lions scored two in the top of the first with a two-run home run. They busted the game open an inning later as they scored nine runs. Abington would add four more runs through the next two innings for the mercy run rule win.

Keystone's lone run came in the bottom of the third off an RBI single by Emily Schultz (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock Area). Courtney Cienki (West Milford, N.J./West Milford) started and went two innings with three strikeouts. Isabella Benitez (East Windsor, N.J./Hightstown) pitched in relief and punched out three batters too.

Game Two: Penn State Abington 10, Keystone 2 (5 inn.)

Abington opened the scoring immediately in the second game off a leadoff home run. The Nittany Lions added one run in the top of the third off a SAC fly. Keystone tied the game in the bottom of the third as Morley and Schultz provided an RBI base knock.

After a scoreless fourth inning, Abington's bats came alive as they compiled eight runs in the fifth inning to take a 10-2 lead. The Giants tried to add on, but they were unable too.

Morley and Sam Ratti (Brodheadsville, Pa./Pleasant Valley)n both had two hits. Schultz suffered the defeat in the circle as she went four innings with four strikeouts. She gave up five earned runs off eight hits.

Keystone (4-14, 2-5 United East) hosts Penn College on Wednesday, Apr. 16 at 3 p.m.
