LA PLUME, Pa.- The Keystone College baseball team secured its 20th consecutive conference championship and second United East title with a 6–3 victory over No. 19/24 and second-seeded Penn State Harrisburg on Sunday morning.
The Nittany Lions opened the scoring in the third inning with a solo home run, but Keystone answered decisively in the fourth. Andy Rivas (Bronx, N.Y./Academy for Language and Technology) delivered a two-run single to put the Giants in front, followed by an RBI single from Hunter Rauch (Lincoln, Del./Cape Henlopen) and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Cooper Fesh (Bethel, Conn./Bethel) to cap the four-run frame.
Keystone added two more runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by another sacrifice fly from Rivas, extending the lead to 6–1. Penn State Harrisburg attempted a late rally with a two-run single in the eighth, but the Giants' pitching staff shut the door to preserve the win.
Rivas earned United East Tournament MVP honors after driving in three runs in the championship game. Carlos Pascual (Paterson, N.J./International) led the offense with a multi-hit performance.
Leam Powell (Phillipsport, N.Y./Chapel Field Christian) picked up the win on the mound, allowing just one run while striking out three over seven innings. Dylan Byler (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) closed out the game in relief, striking out three over the final two frames.
Keystone improves to 35–9 on the season and earns the United East's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament. The Giants will learn their postseason destination during the NCAA Selection Show, airing tomorrow at 12 p.m.
