LA PLUME, Pa.- The Keystone College women's volleyball team suffered a heartbreaking defeat in five sets to Penn State Schuylkill Monday evening in the team's first home match of the 2025 season.
Both teams previously squared off in the season opener when the Nittany Lions claimed a four-set victory back on Aug. 29.
Keystone dropped the match by scores of 25-21, 19-25, 24-26, 25-16, and 10-15.
Indya Rogers (Leeds, Ala./Leeds) and Madison Woods (Camrose, Alberta, Canada/Ecole Camrose Composite) both had nine kills. Hailey Mowry (Vail, Ariz./Cienega) contributed with 15 assists, 11 digs, and eight kills. Naema Alatorre (Brownsville, Tex./Idea Frontier) posted a match high 19 assists.
Defensively, Nataly Bermudez (Las Vegas, NV/Valley) and Serenity Marshall (Ridgefield, Wash./Ridgefield) combined for 38 digs. Jamilah Higgins (Cincinnati, Ohio/Purcell Martin) had four total blocks.
For the Nittany Lions, Lainey Dusel and Amanda Burn had 15 and 12 kills, respectively. Ryleigh Sinko tallied 37 assists. Lyla Kershner added 22 digs.
In the third set, the Nittany Lions held a 13-10 before Keystone scored eight unanswered points. Nittany Lions later went on a 5-0 run to reclaim the lead, 19-18. The Giants added two more points off back-to-back kills while Schuylkill scored four consecutive points to go up 24-22.
Keystone eventually tied it at 24, but the Nittany Lions would finish the set with two straight kills.
With the fifth set tied at eight, Schuylkill would score seven of the last nine points which consisted of two kills and two service aces to win the set and match.
Keystone (0-5) heads to Lancaster for a tri-match at Franklin and Marshall on Saturday, Sept. 13. The Giants will face Washington and Lee at 2:30 p.m. followed by Franklin and Marshall at 5 p.m.
