Women's Basketball Comes Up Short Against Cedar Crest

LA PLUME, Pa.- The Keystone College women's basketball team fell to Cedar Crest College, 71–57, in United East Conference action on Tuesday evening at the Gambal Athletic Center.

Krista Cortazar (Throop, Pa./Mid Valley) led Keystone with 17 points on 7-of-16 shooting, knocking down three three-pointers to pace the Giants offensively. Tayana Bibbins (Lincoln, Del./Sussex Technical) added 11 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and four steals, while Jayda Price (York, Pa./William Penn) chipped in nine points and four assists off the bench. Phaneirra Barnett (Baltimore, Md./Edgewood) finished with seven points and five rebounds.

Analyse Rios led all scorers for Cedar Crest with 26 points, seven assists, and five steals, while Samora Merchant added 21 points on 9-of-11 shooting.

Cedar Crest led wire-to-wire but Keystone stayed within striking distance early, trailing 16–14 at the end of the first quarter. The Falcons extended their advantage in the second period, outscoring the Giants 22–17 to take a 38–31 lead into halftime.

Keystone worked to close the gap in the third quarter, but shooting struggles limited the comeback as Cedar Crest maintained control with a 13–11 edge in the period. The Falcons sealed the victory in the fourth quarter, scoring 20 points and pushing the lead to as many as 14 down the stretch.

Keystone shot 40.4 percent from the field and an efficient 43.8 percent from beyond the arc, but turnovers proved costly as the Giants committed 24 miscues that Cedar Crest converted into 21 points.

The Falcons also held a 46–22 advantage in points in the paint and won the rebounding battle, 41–33.

The Giants (3-14, 2-4 United East) face Gallaudet University on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 3:30 p.m.
