Women’s Basketball Suffers Setback at St. Mary’s

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md.- The Keystone College women's basketball team dropped a road United East Conference matchup to St. Mary's College of Maryland, 92-28, Saturday afternoon.

The game opened with St. Mary's asserting control immediately, going on an early 14–0 run that set the tone for the contest.

Keystone managed to find a rhythm late in the first quarter, with Phaneirra Barnett (Baltimore, Md./Edgewood) knocking down a couple of baskets to keep the Giants on the scoreboard, but the Seahawks' pressure defense forced turnovers and disrupted Keystone's offensive flow. By the end of the first quarter, St. Mary's led 30–11, and the Giants never recovered.

Barnett led the team with 11 points on 5–of-13 shooting while grabbing ten rebounds for the double-double. Jayda Price (York, Pa./William Penn) contributed five points and Krista Cortazar (Throop, Pa./Mid Valley) and Desiree Stamps (Alpharetta, Ga./Centennial) added four points.

Keira Mason led the way with 20 points on 9-of-11 shooting and grabbed 10 boards. Olivia Liszt contributed 17 points, while Skylar Woodyard added 13, including a pair of three-pointers that punctuated St. Mary's runs. Saffiyah Gibson and Sidney Shaw added nine and six points, respectively off the bench.

Keystone had small stretches of resistance, particularly in the third quarter when Barnett and Stamps scored on consecutive possessions. However, St. Mary's responded quickly with another surge, and Keystone was unable to mount sustained pressure.

Overall, the Seahawks shot over 50 percent from the floor and dominated the glass, out-rebounding Keystone 47–28. The Giants shot 22.4 percent and connected on three three-pointers.

Keystone (4-18, 3-8 United East) heads to Wilson College next Saturday.
