CHAMSBERSBURG, Pa.- The Keystone College men's basketball team came up short in United East Conference action on Saturday afternoon, falling 81-73 to Wilson College.
Keystone stayed within striking distance throughout the opening half as the two teams traded baskets early. PJ Murphy (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) provided an offensive spark for the Giants, scoring 11 first-half points, while Kamdyn Ayers (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Western) added nine to help Keystone head into the break trailing just 36-34.
Wilson opened the second half with a strong push, using balanced scoring to stretch its lead to double digits.
Jaylin Davis led the Phoenix, finishing with a team-high 18 points, while Jalen Bowie and Winston Raford scored 15. Armani Jones and Jalen Pierce also reached double figures with 11 points apiece.
Keystone responded midway through the half behind Ayers and Murphy. Ayers finished a perfect 6-for-6 from the field and totaled 17 points, while Murphy led all scorers with 24 points, knocking down three three-pointers and going 9-for-10 from the free-throw line.
Jden Golding (Jacksonville, Fla./Clay) added 12 points and seven rebounds, and Niame Scott (Philadelphia, Pa./Mount Pleasant) chipped in 10 points off the bench.
Despite winning the rebounding battle, 41-38, Keystone was unable to overcome 19 turnovers, which Wilson converted into 21 points. The Giants cut the deficit to as few as six in the final minutes, but Wilson sealed the game at the free-throw line down the stretch.
Keystone (6-17, 3-8 United East) hosts Penn State Abington in their final regular season home game on Tuesday, Feb. 10 at 5 p.m.
