SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, PA- The Keystone men's soccer team nearly took the entire 90 minutes of play to take down Penn State Schuylkill in a road contest on Wednesday afternoon. The Giants fell behind one goal late in the game, before Aiden Cummings (Baltimore, MD/Mount Saint Joseph) knotted the contest back up, with John Covert (Union Beach, NJ/Keyport) finding the back of the net to win the game in 81st minute. Keystone put together possibly their most impressive offensive outing of the season, out shooting Schuylkill 15-8, alongside their eight shots on goal.

Keystone came out to start the contest rather quickly, seeing the first shot of the game coming off the foot of Cristiano Richards (Springfield, NJ/Jonathan Dayton), where Penn State Schuylkill netminder made a save. The Giants continued to press their offense down the field, where John Cover nearly scored off a header eight minutes into the game. Covert followed up his header attempt with a ball that once more nearly scored for the Giants, hitting the cross bar with the ball. Lenskey Raoul (Neptune Township, NJ/Neptune) earned a shot less than a minute later, missing the net wide right.

Keystone's offense continued to showcase their talents in the opening minutes of the game, as David Sandoval (Reedley, CA/Reedley) missed the net wide right, followed by a Lenskey Raoul (Neptune Township, NJ/Neptune) shot that narrowly missed wide left. Marcos Louzada (Guacui, Espirito Santo, Brazil/The Webb School) earned a corner kick for the Giants, with no scoring chances coming out of it.

Kolten McVean (Dickinson, TX/Dickinson) saw his first action in goal for KC at the 34 minute mark, where the Giants goalkeeper tallied his first save of the contest.The Giants offense nearly scored once again at the 39 minute mark of the first half, where Beckham Hash (Harrisonburg, VA/Spotswood) forced Penn State Schuylkill goalkeeper, Kevin Wakefield, to make a save. Matheus de Farias (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Layton Christian Academy) followed Hash's shot with one of his own, wiht Patrick Sceppaguercio (Nutley, NJ/Nutley) tallying the final shot for the Giants in the two minute span. All three shots landed on goal. Aiden Cummings (Baltimore, MD/Mount Saint Joseph) finished the first half with a shot that went high, keeping the score of the first half knotted at 0-0.

KC once again found themselves in control of the ball early in the second half of play, where Dary Hodge-Davila (Riverview, FL/Riverview) nearly scored at the 51 minute mark, forcing Schuylkill's goalkeeper to make yet another save. Kolten McVean (Dickinson, TX/Dickinson) thwarted the first shot for Penn State Schuylkill away shortly after.

Keystone once more tallied a shot, this time by Madden Bredek (Phoenix, AZ/Shadowridge) at the 67 minute mark of the contest, nearly scoring on the chance. Marcos Louzada (Guacui, Espirito Santo, Brazil/The Webb School) followed the Bredek shot with one of his own, missing the net high. Penn State Schuylkill found some offense at the 72 minute mark of the game, where McVean saved the first shot, before Tanner Kolb scored the first goal of the game in favor for Penn State Schuylkill. 

The Giants answered almost immediately with a shot by Aiden Cummings (Baltimore, MD/Mount Saint Joseph) that found the back of the net at the 77th minute of the game. McVean made yet another impressive save at the 80th minute to give the Giants a chance to win the game. John Covert (Union Beach, NJ/Keyport) played hero for Keystone, netting the eventual game winning goal at the 81st minute. A late surge for Schuylkill was thwarted away by the Keystone defense, where the team held on to win their first game of the year 2-1.

Kolten McVean (Dickinson, TX/Dickinson) finished his day in goal facing six shots on goal, saving five. John Covert (Union Beach, NJ/Keyport) led all Giants in shots, tallying three shots, with two landing no goal, tallying one goal to his resume. Aiden Cumming tallied two shots with one on goal, leading to the Giants first goal of the game. Lenskey Raoul (Neptune Township, NJ/Neptune) tallied two shots for KC, as well as eight other players all tallying one shot.

Keystone looks to maintain this momentum heading back home to face off against SUNY Cobleskill on September 19 at 1:00 PM.
