La Plume, PA – Keystone College's men's and women's basketball teams will open the 2015-16 campaign with a home doubleheader on Saturday afternoon in the Ace Spalding Arena located in the Gambal Athletic Center.  The women's team will take on Penn State Berks at 1:00 p.m. while the men's squad will host Messiah College at 3:00 p.m.

Women's Basketball vs. Penn State Berks – 1:00 p.m.

The opening game of Saturday's season-opening doubleheader will pit the Giants' women's basketball team against Penn State Berks at 1:00 p.m..  Keystone, who will be guided by Dr. Matthew Grimaldi in his first full year as the head coach of the Giants, is coming of a 14-13 season in which they went 10-6 in Colonial States Athletic Conference play before advancing to the CSAC semifinals after qualifying for the postseason tournament.  The Nittany Lions went 3-21 a year ago with a 3-17 mark in North Eastern Athletic Conference games.

Saturday's contest will also mark the debut of a number of major changes to the rules governing NCAA women's basketball.  Games will now be played in four 10-minute quarter instead of two 20 minute halves.  Teams will reach the bonus and shoot two personal fouls after the four fouls in any quarter, eliminating the old "one-and-one."   Additionally, there will now be 10-second backcourt violations and teams will have the option to advance the ball on a timeout called in the final minute of the game.

Men's Basketball vs. Messiah College – 3:00 p.m.

The nightcap over Saturday's basketball twin bill will pit the Giants' men's team against Messiah College starting at 3:00 p.m.  Keystone, who is led by third-year head coach Brad Cooper, went 9-16 last season with a 9-9 mark in the CSAC.  The Giants narrowly missed out on a bid to the conference playoffs after a tough loss on the final day of the regular season.  The Falcons posted a 13-11 overall record in the 2014-15 campaign and missed out on the MAC Commonwealth playoffs after going 6-10 in league play.

Several rule changes are also being introduced to the men's game this season, though none as drastic as the changes on the women's side.  Most notably, the shot clock will be reduced to 30 seconds from 35 seconds.  Additionally, the five-second count on a closely defended ball handler has been eliminated and coaches can no longer call timeouts when play is live.
