Giants close out key CSAC road trip tonight at Gwynedd Mercy

A win vaults Keystone into three-way tie for fourth place in CSAC standings

The Keystone College men's basketball team faces another critical test in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) tonight when the Giants take on Gwynedd Mercy in Gwynedd Valley, Pennsylvania, beginning at 8:00 p.m.

A win would vault the Giants into a three-way tie for fourth place with Immaculata University and Rosemont College with two conference games remaining.  If Keystone finishes fourth, it would host a home game at the Gambal Athletic Center in La Plume in the upcoming CSAC tournament next Monday, February 19.

A loss, however, drops Keystone into a tie with Marywood University for sixth place and the last remaining playoff spot, with the Pacers holding the tiebreaker since they swept the regular-season series with the Giants this year.

Gwynedd Mercy also has a lot riding on tonight's outcome.  A win keeps the Griffins just one game behind Cabrini University in the battle for the regular-season title and home-court advantage throughout the CSAC tournament.

In the first meeting between the Giants and Gwynedd Mercy on January 22 in La Plume, the Griffins raced out to a 51-35 halftime lead and went on to post a 96-77 victory.  Senior forward Will Davis led a balanced attack for Gwynedd Mercy with 26 points, sophomore guard Rich Dunham added 22, and senior guard Rip Engel and junior guard Matt Sommers chipped in 18 and 13 points, respectively.  Junior guard Mark Perry (Harrisburg, Pa./Steelton Highspire) led the Giants with 22 points and sophomore center John Kirkpatrick (Philadelphia, Pa./Northeast) and sophomore guard Austin Smith (Titusville, Fla./Florida Air Academy) scored 17 and 15 points, respectively.

Gwynedd Mercy news and notes:  Griffins have lost three of their last four games and bring a 17-5 overall record and a 12-3 mark in the CSAC into tonight's game…in Saturday's 65-57 loss at home to Marywood, Gwynedd Mercy shot less than 31 percent from the field, including 0-for-13 from beyond the 3-point arc, in the second half after opening up a 30-25 halftime lead…Davis finished with 25 points on 10 of 17 shooting from the field against Marywood Saturday; the rest of his teammates shot 12-for-47 (25.5 percent) from the field…the Griffins are 7-1 at home this year.

Keystone news & notes (individual):  Giants had six players score in double figures in Saturday's win over Immaculata, led by Bennett with 21 points and sophomore guard Jalen Flynn (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) with 14…Saturday's game was the second time this season that Keystone had six players score in double figures; the Giants did it in a 98-96 loss at Cabrini on January 6…Perry's 11-point, 10-rebound effort Saturday against Immaculata was the seventh time in 10 games that he has recorded a 'double-double'…in his last four games, senior forward Bryan Williams (Los Angeles, Calif./Rialto) is averaging 9.5 rebounds; he had a season-high 16 against Clarks Summit University on January 31 and seven last Saturday at Immaculata…Williams, Mark Gilliam (Philadelphia, Pa./High School of the Future) and Terrence Palmer (Atlanta, Ga./Lakeside) will be honored before tip-off of Wednesday game against Centenary University as part of Senior Night festivities on campus.
