Keystone seniors to play last regular-season home game

Three members of the Keystone College men's basketball team will be honored prior to tip-off of the Giants' game against Centenary University this Wednesday, February 14, at 8:00 p.m. in the Gambal Athletic Center in La Plume.  Mark Gilliam (Philadelphia, Pa./High School of the Future), Terrence Palmer (Atlanta, Ga./Lakeside) and Bryan Williams (Los Angeles, Calif./Rialto) will be recognized for their contributions to the Giants' program over the past four years.

For Keystone, a win keeps them in the hunt for a playoff spot in the upcoming Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) tournament.  The Giants are currently tied for sixth place with Marywood University, just one game behind Rosemont College and Immaculata University for fourth place.  The top six teams advance to the league's post-season tournament, which begins with quarterfinal action on Monday, February 19, and ends with the championship game set for Saturday, February 24.  The eventual CSAC champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament.

Centenary news and notes:  the Cyclones could put a damper on the Giants' post-season plans.   They gave Keystone fits in the first meeting on January 11 in Hackettstown, losing by only four points, 84-80, and they could spoil things at the top of the CSAC standings Saturday if they can upset Gwynedd Mercy on the road.  Despite a 7-16 overall record, they've won three of their last four games, including an impressive 64-53 win over Neumann University at home last Saturday.  The duo of freshman guard Chris LaBelle (15.9 points per game) and freshman forward Larry Joseph (12.7 points per game) accounts for 43 percent of the Cyclones' scoring.  In the first meeting with Keystone, Joseph came off the bench and finished with 18 points and 14 rebounds.

Keystone news and notes (team):  Giants closed out a two-game CSAC road trip Monday by dropping an 88-67 decision at Gwynedd Mercy, a game in which the final score looks deceiving.  Keystone fell behind by 23 at intermission, yet fought back and closed the gap to 11 with 6:48 remaining.  The Giants, however, turned the ball over three times on their next four possessions and the Griffins took advantage by scoring eight points to push their lead back up to 19.  Believe it or not, but Keystone has a better record on the road than at home this year.  The Giants are 6-6 on the road and 4-5 at Gambal.  Keystone closes out the regular-season on Saturday, February 17, against Rosemont College in Rosemont, Pennsylvania, beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Keystone news and notes (individual):  Wednesday's game will be the 47th in Gilliam's career.  He serves as one of four team captains (along with Palmer) and has averaged in double figures in scoring in his two seasons in a Keystone uniform.  He has scored in double figures 13 times this season, including a season-high 17-point effort against Hamilton College on November 19.  He is the Giants' third-leading scorer at 10.3 points per game and is fourth in 3-point field goals made with 33.  Palmer, a four-year letterman, has played in 48 games in his career.  So far this year, he has seen action in 14 games and has started once, against Cairn University on January 3 at home.    He opened the season with a 10-point effort against Oneonta St. on November 15 and matched that effort against Clarks Summit University on November 29.  Williams, who has also been with the program for four years, will play his 81st game Wednesday.  In a win over Clarks Summit University on January 31, he recorded a 'double double' with 11 points and 16 rebounds.  For his career, he has scored 318 points and pulled down 288 rebounds.  He also holds a career shooting percentage of 52 percent and a mark of 71.2 percent from the free throw line.
