Giants 16th after opening round of NCAA Mideast Region in Ithaca, NY

Keystone finishes with 5.5 points in today's competition

Ithaca, NY—Keystone College is in 16th place after today's opening round of the NCAA Division III Mideast regional meet at Ithaca College.

All seven of the Giant entries, however, failed to advance to Sunday's consolation and championship rounds.

In the 125 pound weight class, freshman Colby Bronzburg (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg) dropped his opening round match to Jack DelDuca of SUNY Oswego, 6-2, came back to defeat Andrew Desousa of SUNY Oneonta by tech. fall, 16-0, but closed out the tournament with a 14-4 major decision loss to Tyreek Staton of Centenary University.  He finishes the season with an 18-9 record.

Freshman Paul Miller (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley) went 1-2 on the day in the 133-pound weight class, losing his opening round match to Evan Corso of SUNY Oswego, 6-2.  He then defeated Josh McLoughlin of Elizabethtown College, 5-2, but bowed out with a 14-6 major decision loss to Nicholas DePierro of Scranton.  Miller ends his freshman year with a 21-5 record.

Freshman Tahron Sheffield (Plainfield, N.J./St. Benedict's Prep) lost to Michael Foca of the College of Mt. St. Vincent, 9-3, in his first match in the 141-pound weight class.  He downed Justin DeLucia, 6-4, in his next match, but then suffered a pin at the 4:47 mark of the second period to Zack Barker of the College at Brockport.  He ends the year with a 7-15 record.

Freshman Harry Marr (Nottingham, Pa./Oxford Area) lost to Tyler Brazinski by a 13-1 major decision and 6-0 to Daniel Smith of Elizabethtown in the 149-pound weight class.  Marr finishes the year with a 5-16 record.

In the 157 pound weight class, freshman Thomas Michaels (Souderton, Pa./Souderton) was pinned by Kaidon Winters of R.I.T. before losing a 9-1 major decision to Christian Gramuglia of SUNY Oswego.  He ends the year with a 6-10 mark.  Sophomore TJ Pashinski (Plymouth, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) suffered first-period pins by Alec Donovan of Centenary and William Heine of Hunter College in the 165-pound weight class and finishes the season with a 1-9 mark.

Freshman Joshua Newhart (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) went 1-2 in the 285-pound weight class, suffering a first-period pin by James Bethel of SUNY Oneonta but came back to score a 9-2 decision against Kevin Morgans of SUNY Oneonta.  In his final bout, he was pinned in the third period by Nick Rivera of Centenary.  Newhart ends the year with a 1-11 record.

Ithaca College is in first-place in the team standings with 82.5 points, followed by Stevens Inst. of Technology (56.5), The College of New Jersey (49.5), Centenary University (49), and College at Brockport and SUNY Cortland, each with 47 points.
