La PLUME, Pa. - When looking for leaders on a young Keystone College men's basketball team, head coach
Brad Cooper didn't have to look far when
Tone Cockrell (Upper Marlboro, Md./Landon School) transferred in. The Giants' leading scorer early in the season is one of the reasons why Keystone is winning.
Brad Cooper, Keystone Coach says, "Tone is a leader. That is most important. He is a true leader on the team. He is relentless in seeking the paint and then that opens up his outside game as well."
Tone Cockrell (Upper Marlboro, Md./Landon School), Keystone junior guard says , "So far I have a had a couple of good games. I have been focused on getting my teammates involved and me and coach talked about my defense and how I want to take that to the next level. Being in the right place and sacrificing my body as much as I can on the offense end."
The Giants like to use a pressure defense to get easy points and they have the size to stretch to floor
Shane Rosencrans (Throop, Pa./Mid Valley), Keystone Freshman guard says, "We are fast, we run in transition, we lock up. It is new to me, I have never pressed in my life and I like it."
Tyrell Lacoste (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen), Keystone junior forward added, "I like the speed we are moving in. I like how everyone is operating and moving together and how we play with each other every single day. Lot of pressure, pressure, pressure because pressure breaks. We want to speed teams up and make them do dumb stuff."
The Giants have not finished with a .500 or above record to end the season in 7 years. And after the preseason poll had them selected to finish 6th, they feel they can end the season in the playoffs.
Cockrell added, "We love our doubters. We are just coming in and working hard every day and we are definitely going to be a playoff team."
" I think our mindset is a lot stronger and I think we are relentless out there. We had a very good preseason and we are well conditioned and that is what we saw in the first three games," added Cooper.
