SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Keystone baseball team fell on the road to Susquehanna, 9-6, Thursday afternoon in non-conference play at Harold Bollinger Field.
After an early 2-0 lead by the Giants, the River Hawks scored the winning run in the bottom of the fifth inning on a series of deemed Keystone pitching miscues.
After relief pitcher Julian Gonzalez (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne) got out No. 1 with the lead-off batter fouling out to third base, Susquehanna's Brock Veit got on base with a full count-single to center field. After a wild pitch moved Veit over a base, Gonzalez was called with consecutive balks to bring Veit home for the score.
Susquehanna plated two more runs in the fifth for a three-run lead. The Giants' Vince Montone (Oak Ridge, N.J./Jefferson Township) got a run back on an RBI double the ensuing inning, but the River Hawks plated another run in the bottom frame.
Julio Acosta (Elizabeth, N.J./Hudson Catholic) and Chris Hadsall (Lehman, Pa./Lake Lehman) drove in two more runs in the top of the seventh to make it a one-score game, but the River Hawks once again matched the Giants by scoring a pair of runs to re-extend their lead and reach the eventual final arithmetic of 9-6.
Keystone fell to 12-14 overall while Susquehanna improved to 12-16.
