NEW YORK, N.Y.- The Keystone College men's wrestling team suffered a 42-12 defeat to Hunter College Friday afternoon at the Hunter Sportsplex.
The Giants opened the day on a high note at 197 pounds, where Nero Bono (Southboro, Mass./Assabet Valley) delivered a first-period spark. Bono controlled the match early and secured a pin over Hunter's Alimkhan Guseinov at 3:41, giving Keystone an initial 6–0 advantage.
The Hawks responded quickly, capitalizing on forfeits at 285, 141, and 174, along with a series of strong performances in the light and middle weights, to build a commanding lead.
Hunter's Muhamaduh Konteh, Jayden Medina, and Marc Kleyman earned wins by fall at 133, 149, and 157 pounds, respectively.Â
Keystone battled back at 165, where Codi Bomboy (Montrose, Pa./Elk Lake) delivered one of the team's highlights of the afternoon. In a determined effort, Bomboy worked past Hunter's Jordan Fisher and earned a fall at 4:15.
Hunter sealed the match with a forfeit win at 174, followed by a pin from Naseer Johnson at 184.Â
The team competed in several exhibition bouts, where Keystone showed competitive energy. Bomboy split his two extra matches, dropping a major decision to Nacim Benzine at 149, but rebounding with a 1:12 pin over Isaiah Harris at 165. Bono also added a strong 8–1 decision victory over Lazare Chikhradze in an exhibition heavyweight matchup.
Keystone heads to Utica University next Friday.
