Gettysburg, Pa. – Keystone College's wrestling team returned to the mat for the first time in 2017 on Saturday, going 1-2 at the Gettysburg College Quad Meet. The Giants, now 6-8 on the season, opened the day with a 27-18 victory over the Pennsylvania College of Technology before falling to the host Bullets and King's College.
Match 1 vs. Pennsylvania College of Technology
In Saturday's opener against the Wildcats (0-5),
Jacob Richards (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock) and
Greg Kleinsmith (/Wyoming Seminary) picked up pins to lead Keystone to the win.
Josh Rivera (Scranton, Pa./Scranton) gave Keystone a 3-0 lead with an 11-8 decision at 125 pounds before Richards pinned his opponent at 149 pounds in 1:42. Penn College pulled to within 15-12 before a forfeit followed by Kleinsmith's pin at the 2:20 mark of the 184 pound bout clinched the win for the Giants.
Match 2 vs. Gettysburg College
In Keystone's second match of the day against the host Bullets (5-2),
Ryan Celenza (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) earned the Giants' only points of the match with a pin as Gettysburg prevailed with a 49-6 victory. Celenza earned the pin at the 2:52 mark of the 133 pound match, but it was all the Keystone would manage as the Bullets scored three pins of their own to go along with an injury default, a major decision, and a decision in the triumph.
Match 3 vs. King's College
In the Giants' third match of the day against the Monarchs (7-10),
Zachary Briggs (Wyoming, Pa./Wyoming Area) scored a pin for Keystone's only points in a 45-6 setback. Briggs notched his pin in the first period of the 165 pound matchup, but King's used four pins of their own to pull away with the win.
