Keystone Track & Field Produces Breakthrough Performances at Monarch Invite

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Keystone College men's and women's track & field teams delivered a series of strong individual performances this past weekend, highlighted by multiple personal-best efforts and a podium finish in field competition.

The day was headlined by freshman Marquez Strickland (Waldorf, Md./Mojave), who paced the Giants on the track. Strickland placed sixth in the 100 meters with a time of 11.98 and followed with an eighth-place finish in the 200 meters (24.29). He capped his meet with a personal-best performance in the 400 meters, placing fifth overall in 55.28 to lead Keystone.

In the men's 100 meters, Keystone showed depth with several first-year athletes contributing. Demontay Hawkins (Warrenton, N.C./Warren County) (12.45), Azmir Ludvig (York, Pa./Central York) (13.01), Zyhir Brown (Lithia Springs, Ga./Lithia Springs Comprehensive) (13.21), Shateek Humbert (Manhattan, N.Y./Cardinal Hayes) (13.24, personal best), and Carly Merise (Seaford, Del./Sussex Academy) (13.52) all posted solid efforts, signaling a promising sprint group.

Humbert added to his day with a 14th-place finish in the 200 meters (27.48), continuing his progression this season.

On the women's side, freshman Indya Rogers (Leeds, Ala./Leeds) recorded a personal-best time of 14.87 in the 100 meters to place eighth overall, while Josie Evans-Grant (Anchorage, AK/Grace Christian) also notched a personal best (16.40). In the 200 meters, Jamilah Higgins (Cincinnati, Ohio/Purcell Martin) led the Giants with a ninth-place finish in 31.45, followed by Rogers (33.40) and Evans-Grant (35.75).

Higgins turned in one of the top performances of the meet for Keystone, earning a runner-up finish in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 19.42.

In the field events, freshman Ayzeem Hassan (Philadelphia, Pa./Motivation) delivered a standout performance with a third-place finish in the discus throw, recording a mark of 34.67 meters (113-09). Teammate Nathan Barragan (Fort Worth, Tex./Trimble Technical) added a personal-best throw of 20.53 meters in the event.

Barragan also impressed in the long jump, placing sixth overall with a personal-best leap of 5.53 meters (18-01.75). Jahvani Vasquez (Bradenton, Fla./Southeast) contributed in multiple events, finishing seventh in the high jump (1.62m) and eighth in the long jump.

Additional field highlights included a personal-best mark from Ray Belle (York, Pa./Central York) in the shot put (9.45m), further demonstrating Keystone's continued growth in the throwing events.

The Giants will now train for the 2026 United East Championships - hosted by Keystone - next weekend, May 2-3.
