La Plume, PA – Keystone College's women's basketball team's quest for a Colonial States Athletic Conference championship continues tonight as the Giants travel to Cabrini College for a semifinal contest scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. at Cabrini's Nerney Field House in Radnor, Pennsylvania. Tonight's contest is a rematch of a 2013 semifinal that was won by the Cavaliers, 72-62, as Cabrini went on to win the conference title.
The winner of tonight's contest will advance to Saturday's CSAC championship game against the winner of tonight's other semifinal contest between #2 seed Immaculata University and #3 seed Gwynedd Mercy University which will be played simultaneously with the Keystone-Cabrini game. The winner of Saturday's championship game will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Keystone (14-12), the fifth seed in this year's conference tournament, enters tonight's semifinal on a hot streak as the Giants have won their last three games and five out of their last six contests. Keystone advanced to the semifinal round with and exciting, 62-58 victory at #4 Marywood University on Monday night.
Jazmyn Robinson (Hyattsville, MD/Northwestern), a Second Team All-CSAC honoree, led the Giants with 22 points, six assists, and six steals in the contest,
Alyssa Cuomo (Odessa, DE/Hodgson Vo-tech), and Honorable Mention All-CSAC pick, had 13 points and eight rebounds, and
AAliya Hayes (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) came off the bench to score 12 points in the victory over the Pacers.
For the season, Cuomo paces Keystone with 14.1 points per game while Robinson and Hayes average 13.3 points per game apiece for the Giants.
Ashley Evans (Wooster, OH/Wooster) also averages double-figures with 13.1 points per game while
Cierra Hensley (Frederick, MD/Frederick) is just shy of double-figures with 9.7 points per game while leading the squad with 7.2 rebounds per game.
The Giants face a tall task against top-seeded Cabrini (22-3) as the Cavaliers have won 16-straight games and 22 of their last 23 contests including a 66-39 win at Keystone on January 7
th in the only regular season meeting between the two sides. The only blemish for Cabrini, who is currently ranked 21
st in the nation during their last 23 games was a 56-55 setback to Thomas More College, who is ranked second in the country.
Cabrini, the two-time defending CSAC champion, is led by a pair of First Team All-CSAC selections including the CSAC Player of the Year, Amber Keys, who is second in the conference in scoring with 17.1 points per game and tied for second in the league in rebounding with 9.8 boards per contest to go along with a conference-best 50 blocked shots. Megan Decker, also a First Team All-Conference honoree, averages 9.9 points per game while Dana Peterson contributes 8.2 points per game for the Cavaliers.
In the regular season meeting between the Giants and Cavaliers on January 7
th in La Plume, Cabrini raced out to a 20-6 lead before taking a 34-17 lead into halftime. The visitors then opened the second half with an 8-0 run and Keystone was unable to draw any closer than within 20 points the rest of the way. Keys led the Cavaliers with 24 points and 10 rebounds while Peterson and Meghan Barth contributed 10 points apiece. Robinson paced Keystone with 10 points, Hayes added nine points, and
Jerica Rode (Lords Valley, PA/Wallenpaupack),
Chelsey Hropovich (Seward, PA/Ligonier Valley) and
Dyjae Williams (Newark, NJ/Bloomfield Tech) each had five rebounds with Rode blocking four shots in the contest.
