GYWNEDD VALLEY, Pa.—Senior
Carl Joseph (Hillside, N.J./Hillside) and sophomore
Yaw Acheampong (Bronx, N.Y./Bronx Health Sciences) won individual titles for Keystone College today at the 2018 Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) championships hosted by Gwynedd Mercy University at the Griffin Complex.
For the second time in his career, Joseph won the 400-meter run, covering the distance in :50.06, while Acheampong captured the long jump with an effort of 6.44 meters (21',1.5"). Joseph won his previous conference title in 2016.
Penn State-Behrend won its third straight CSAC team title with a two-day total of 282 points. Marywood University was second with 165 points, followed by Keystone (101), Franciscan University of Ohio (95), Neumann University (58), Gwynedd Mercy (55), and Immaculata (32).
Joseph and Acheampong also picked up a pair of second-place finishes in the 200 meters (:22.70) and 100 meters (:11.25), respectively, and junior
Corey Allegrucci (Moscow, Pa./North Pocono) joined them with a runner-up finish in the 100 hurdles (:16.48). He also placed third in the high jump with a leap of 1.80 meters (5',10.75"). Freshman
Obinna Azonobi (Philadelphia, Pa./New Foundation Charter School) rounded out Keystone's top-five finishers with a fifth-place showing in the hammer throw (39.10 meters, 128',3").
In the last event of the day, the Giants placed second in the 4x400-meter relay, as sophomore Eddie Sichilongo, junior
Mark Arzie (Scott Township, Pa./Lakeland), freshman
Nicholas Stanton (Syracuse, N.Y./Chittenango), and Joseph covered the distance in 3:29.79.
