Angelo Targia ’66 is recognized for his play on the soccer field, both at Keystone and beyond.
Angelo was a two-time National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-American for the Giants in 1964 and 1965. Following his time at Keystone, Angelo continued his academic and athletic careers at SUNY New Paltz when he once again starred on the soccer field, picking up an All-SUNYAC selection in 1967.
Having immigrated to the United States from Italy in 1960, Angelo attended Lafayette High School in Brooklyn, NY before his time at Keystone. He eventually earned a Bachelors and Master degrees in Spanish from New Paltz.
Follow his College days he went onto play semi-professional soccer for both the German American Soccer League and Italian American Soccer League in New York and the International Soccer League. He began his teaching profession in 1968 as a Spanish teacher at FD Roosevelt High School in Hyde Park, NY, retiring 39 years later.
Angelo was also an adjunct professor of Spanish at SUNY New Paltz for 22 years and is currently teaching Spanish at Marist College. He also found the time to serve his local community, having been elected to the Hyde Park, NY Town Board, where he served as a councilman and deputy Town Supervisor for two terms.
He also boasts several professional and personal accomplishments, including: serving as a teacher mentor; pioneer of the Distance Learning Program at FD Roosevelt High School; treasurer of the HPTA Benefit Trust Fund; past president of NIDO (Noi Italiani di Oggi); member and past treasurer of the Knights of Columbus Chapter in Hyde Park; member and former president of Dutchess County Soccer Official Association; varsity soccer coach at FD Roosevelt; founder of the Hyde park Soccer League and member of Sigma Delta Pi (National Honor Society of Spanish Scholars).
