Lionel I. Stanton ’49 is honored for his remarkable accomplishments at Keystone Junior College, his outstanding educational and professional achievements, and for his continued contributions to Keystone College.
During his two years at Keystone, Lionel played an astounding seven different sports, a feat unheard of among today’s student-athletes at any institution. He was a two-year member of the Giants’ baseball and basketball teams and served as baseball’s team captain during the 1949 season. Lionel also played football in 1948, was captain of the track team in 1949, and capped of his stellar athletic career by being named the 1948-1949 Keystonian of the Year.
Lionel also participated in the three intramural sport programs at Keystone from 1948-1949, captaining the school’s bowling, volleyball, and soccer teams. Lionel’s athletic prowess continued after his time at Keystone, as he went on to earn a golf 2 handicap, tennis intermediate, and skiing high intermediate listings.
Along with athletic pursuits, Lionel continued his education after graduating from Keystone and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the Pennsylvania State University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Denver.
Lionel has since spent his entire professional career as a certified public accountant, first working for an international accounting firm before opening his own accounting firm in 1958 which he continues to run to this day. He has also been an elected Council Member of the Pennsylvania Institute of CPA and the Vice President of the PICPA.
Active in his professional associations and his community, Lionel is a member of the PICPA, the AICPA, the Centre Hills Country Club, Elks, and the Mountain Acres Club. After establishing his legacy during his time at Keystone and throughout his professional career, Lionel has ensured that his contributions to the College will long continue to be felt as he has included Keystone College in his estate plan.
