Jill Shoemaker ’87 was recognized for her exceptional career as a member of Keystone Junior College’s softball team. A standout player for two seasons for the Giants, she re-wrote Keystone’s record books for numerous game, season, and career offensive categories.
Jill excelled during the 1986 and 1987 seasons, establishing Keystone career records for hits and doubles, collecting 64 total hits during those two seasons including 19 doubles. She also ended her time in La Plume with a school record 159 at-bats as a key hitter in the Giants’ lineup.
For her career, Jill posted an outstanding .403 batting average, the second-highest mark in Keystone history while also ranking second in RBI for a career after driving in 62 runs for the Giants.
In 1987, Jill put together one of the finest seasons in Keystone softball history, setting a number of school records while leading the Giants to a postseason appearance. She batted an astounding .444 on the season which was the third highest single-season batting average in program history.
She also set Keystone records for hits, RBI, and doubles during her final year at Keystone, totaling 43 RBI, 36 hits, and 13 doubles in the 1987 campaign. She also had 81 at-bats during the season, the second most in a year in Giants’ history.
Jill remains the only player in Keystone history to hit two grand slams in one game, accomplishing the feat on April 17, 1987 when she also set a school record with 14 RBI in a doubleheader.
During her time at Keystone, Jill led the Giants to 23 victories and an appearance in the NJCAA Region XIX playoffs during her phenomenal 1987 season.
After her time at Keystone, Jill went on to obtain bachelor degree in early childhood education and teaching from West Chester University before earning a master’s degree as a reading specialist from Holy Family University.
Jill has been a first grade teacher in the William Penn School District since 2000.
