Todd Bailey ’80 is recognized for his outstanding accomplishments in basketball while at Keystone and beyond.
Bailey had the distinction of playing for two of the winningest college coaches in the country, first, under Dennis Mishko (525 wins in 25 years) during his career at Keystone and later for Bob Bessoir (554 wins in 29 years) at the University of Scranton.
The sleek guard fine tuned his basketball skills at Bishop O’Hara High School where he netted 1,646 for his career, including an astonishing 901 points during his senior season. During his two-year stint at Keystone, the Giants compiled a mark of 35-15, as he picked up National Junior College Athletic Association Region XIX All Star recognition following his sophomore season, a season that saw him score at a clip of 15 points per game.
A solid player on both ends of the court he left his mark on the Keystone record books in steals and assists, till this day still rank him in the top three all time. His 236 career steals ranks second all time for the Giants, while his single game performance of 12 steals is still a program best. He dished out 338 assists during his two years at Keystone; good for third all time and his 8.7apg season assists mark and 7.6apg career mark still rank him third in the history of the program.
Described as a player who could run, shoot and defend, Bailey drew the inertest of several NCAA Division I programs, but opted to stay local and attend the University of Scranton. His decision paid off as the 1982-83 Royals captured the NCAA Division III National Championship, where Bailey earned a berth on the Final Four All-Tournament Team. He wrapped up his career at Scranton with 661 points and 151 steals.
