Robert K. Keyes ’73 is recognized for his outstanding playing career as a member of Keystone Junior College’s men’s basketball team as well his continued contributions to Keystone College.

Robert was a two-year starter for the Giants from 1971-1973 and set a school record of 914 career points, averaging an impressive 23.0 points per game. As of his Hall of Fame induction, Robert’s points total is the 19th most among all players in Giants history – including both four-year and two-year careers. The prolific scorer set a single-game record by netting 45 points in a 106-76 win over Pierce Junior College during his first season and he finished the 1972-73 season ranked fifth in scoring in Region 19 of the National Junior College Athletic Association.

During the 1971-72 season, Robert was selected to the Corning Community College Christmas Tournament All-Tournament Team, tied a single-game season record with 19 free throws made in a game, and also made 19 field goals in a game, which is the second most all time in Keystone history. For the year, Robert averaged 23.3 points per game, the seventh-best all-time, and received commendation for having the highest scoring average, being the best offensive player, and leading rebounder for his freshman year.

In the 1972-73 campaign, Robert led his team to its best record in nearly a decade while grabbing a team-high 290 rebounds, an average of 14.0 per game. Following the season, he was selected to the Region XIX All-Star Team and was also named Keystone’s Most Valuable Player.

Robert earned an Associate of Arts Degree in Education from Keystone in 1973, a Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education from East Stroudsburg State College in 1975, and a Master of Science in Elementary School Administration from the University of Scranton in 1979. He also obtained a Secondary School Administration Certificate and Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility from Temple University in 1992.

After serving as a Health and Physical Education Teach in the Susquehanna Community School District from 1976-1983, Robert was promoted to the position of Elementary School Principal, a position he still holds. In this role, he continues his stewardship to Keystone by serving as the liaison between the Susquehanna Community School District and Keystone College in the placement of students in field experiences and student teaching. Robert has also served as a basketball coach in the school district for more than 20 years and has been officiating since 1996.
